Czech filmmaker Ivan Zachariáš’ unique and aesthetically impressive reel proves there is no commercial director working today with a more classically trained cinematic style and natural storytelling ability.
Zachariáš commitment to quality and his artistic touch keep him atop any creative’s directorial wish list. He works in the manner of the European auteur filmmakers, taking projects from inception through finish, collaborating closely with agency creatives. His dedication to perfection can be seen in his award winning spots for Honda, Rexona, and Adidas, among others. Zachariáš’ Stella Artois Good Doctor and Honda Impossible Dream spots were popular and critical successes, receiving more awards than any other campaign in 2002; including a Cannes Gold Lion, an Epica Award, and several D&AD Awards.
His epic Vaseline Sea spot earned a Cannes Bronze Lion and Gold CLIO in 2008. Zachariáš followed with Nike Pretty starring tennis champion, Maria Sharapova. The spot provided Ivan with an opportunity to meld nostalgic theatrical elements with an innovative brand and earned him 2 Gold Film Lions.
Zachariáš’ Audi Chase spot for Venables Bell & Partners debuted at the 2009 Oscars and was inspired by iconic Hollywood chase scenes, (following Jason Statham racing through time). Zachariáš directed Jude Law and Christopher Walken in commercials for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. His Newcastle No Bullocks campaign garnered a 2012 Bronze Cannes Film Lion and was shortlisted for Titanium & Integrated Lions.
In 2014, Zachariáš directed a commercial with Droga5 for Chobani featuring a hungry grizzly tearing apart a convenience store, which was showcased during the Superbowl. The spot was an Internet sensation and was featured on the Today Show. He followed by teaming up with Lucky Generals, directing a short film for Kahlúa based around Jeff Bridges narrating the mythical tale of the White Russian. He has recently been recognized for his outstanding work on the HBO show, Wasteland.
