Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow has developed a vast portfolio of celebrated feature films and commercials. A force across both advertising and film, Bigelow is a timeless filmmaker with an unwavering work ethic and an incredible focus to her craft.
Her earlier body of work includes the films The Loveless, Blue Steel, Point Break, Strange Days, and K-19: The Widowmaker. She’s worked with advertising clients including AT&T, Budweiser, Apple, Mercedes, Chanel, Ford, and Chase, to name a few. Bigelow directed the Iraq War thriller/character study The Hurt Locker which earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning Best Picture. She took home the Oscar for Best Director, becoming the first woman in Oscar history to win the award. Bigelow followed with Zero Dark Thirty, about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, which was also nominated for Best Picture.
Bigelow also teamed up with VR creator Imraan Ismail to create “The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes,” a short VR documentary film exploring the African elephants’ race toward extinction at the hands of ivory-seeking poachers. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film festival and was dubbed “remarkable” by Hilary Clinton.
Bigelow co-directed a campaign for International Day of the Girl, “I Am Not a Weapon.” The campaign details the experiences of nine girls kidnapped by Boko Haram; the terrorist group attempted to weaponize the girls, but they heroically refused. Her work for Budweiser “Typical American” aired during the Super Bowl and is an uplifting film that celebrates the American spirit and the real-life stories of communities across the country. Most recently, Bigelow directed “Hollywood in Your Pocket” for Apple alongside Oscar-winning Cinematographer Greig Fraser. The film, which was shot entirely on the iPhone 13 Pro, features some of cinema’s most iconic genres and earned Bigelow a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.
