StyleWar
Biography
Since their inception, Swedish collective StyleWar have evolved from a boutique design and animation studio into a major player in the top echelon of commercial directors.
Co-founded by Oskar Holmedal and Martin Sjöström, StyleWar immediately began making waves in creative filmmaking with their iconic music video for Moby’s “In This World” landing them a spot in the Cannes Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase and signed with SMUGGLER shortly thereafter.
Drawn to technically challenging spots, StyleWar are known for their razor-sharp use of hyper real detail and explosive color, creating their signature style. The work is almost unsettling in its ability to integrate subtle CG with naturalistic live action. This approach to filmmaking separated them from the rest and equipped the collective to direct some of the most innovative spots for brands like Google, Coca-Cola, Lexus, HP, and Nike and visually stunning campaigns for Nissan, Visa, Bacardi, and Toyota, among others. Their engrossing spot for Apple’s iPhone X is universally admired and often referenced along with their work for a myriad of other brands including Samsung, Ford and Reebok, to name a few. Most recently, StyleWar helmed the launch campaign for Ally Bank “Lazy Money” with Anomaly NY.
In addition to commercials, StyleWar have made their mark in music videos throughout their career. Additional highlights include their vast, globe-spanning music video for Bonobo, “Bambro Koyo Ganda” as well as “Keep Moving” for Bronson which took the awards show circuit by storm, most notably winning the UKMVA Best Lockdown Video, Best Music Video and Best Animation at the 1.4 Awards, and a shortlist for Best Music Video of the Year at shots Awards The Americas 2021. The expertly crafted video also earned a spot on Creative Review’s coveted Best Music Video of the Year list.
StyleWar are creative problem solvers in the truest sense. They’re detail obsessed creators of their own realities on behalf of agencies and brands always finding bespoke approaches to the creative, whether it be puppetry, VFX, or elaborate set builds. They’re mixed media masters and the original awe-inspiring directing collective, setting the gold standard for technical feats of commercial filmmaking, always inserting their Swedish mischievous spirit.
