Biography

Ricky Saiz is an award-winning filmmaker, designer, art director and photographer. He has been at the forefront of culture for over 15 years, operating in a variety of mediums and industries. His work is fueled by creativity and collaboration as he moves seamlessly across film, art, fashion and music. He has an acute understanding of how visual storytelling can reflect and redefine the world around us, evidenced by his tenure as the longtime Creative Director of Supreme.

As a filmmaker and photographer, Ricky has worked with Beyoncé, Saint Laurent, Heron Preston, Calvin Klein, Smirnoff, Powerade, Proenza Schouler and Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, among others. In the commercial space, his work consistently pairs raw, lived-in texture with striking cinematic style. “The Kid” for Powerade captures youthful determination with visceral intimacy, while “Garage Girls” for Calvin Klein turns an underground subculture into a bold portrait of identity and belonging. His award-winning music video for The Carters, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s recording collaboration, was filmed in The Louvre and universally lauded for its subversive recontextualization of representation in Western art as well as its conceptually-layered and evocative aesthetic. The film earned a Grammy nomination for Best Music Video, received eight MTV Video Music Award nominations and was named Music Video of the Year by Rolling Stone.

At Supreme, he designed and oversaw seasonal collections, collaborations with outside brands, fashion houses and artists, while designing and developing graphic identity, industrial product design and marketing strategies. His creative leadership became iconic within the industry and culture at large, turning the brand into a cult, global powerhouse with a generation of collaborations spanning luxury fashion, contemporary art and street culture. The collaboration collections he oversaw include Louis Vuitton, Comme Des Garçons, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto, Undercover, Nike, Akira, The North Face, Stone Island, Lacoste, as well as contemporary artists such as Nan Goldin, Josh Smith, Larry Clark and Rita Akerman, to name a few.
