Biography

Allie Avital is a New York-born and raised director whose work is visually arresting, conceptually bold and original. She draws inspiration from the music video auteur generation of the 90’s and represents a new class of filmmakers across the spectrum of storytelling.

Avital has quickly become one of the most sought-after directors in music videos and advertising working with a wide range of artists from the multi-hyphenate Moses Sumney to pop-sensation Olivia Rodrigo, to the trailblazing Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Additionally, she’s collaborated with brands as diverse as Starbucks, Ralph Lauren and Pandora, always injecting her trademark sensibility.

Avital’s music video “Deja Vu” for Olivia Rodrigo, earned a CICLOPE shortlist and has amassed over 350 million views on YouTube since its premiere. Allie’s music video “Wolf” for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs shows her style distilled into its purest form, and premiered at SXSW.

Growing up in a theater family, Allie naturally learned to use all the storytelling tools at her disposal, regardless of medium or genre. Attuned to emotionality, humor, and world-building, Allie employs a distinctive camera language along with subtleties in costume design, casting, aesthetic and performance to develop her trademark tone, capturing her subjects with style and precision.

Allie’s work has been Vimeo Staff Picked nine times, featured in The New York Times, NPR, NOWNESS, Buzzfeed, Promonews, “Best Of” lists, and has been nominated for Camerimage Awards (Best Music Video and Best Cinematography), the UKMVAs and CICLOPE. Her work has screened at SXSW (receiving the Jury Recognition Award twice), Sundance NEXT, BAM, IFC, BUG, Havana Film Festival, and many more.
