Andre Muir
Biography
Andre Muir is known for his layered aesthetic expression and world-building, employing an observational visual language that is as visually arresting as it is emotionally resonant. His work blends dynamic style with humanity, crafting films that feel immersive, nuanced and deeply alive.
He has established himself as a go-to filmmaker for some of today’s most original musicians. His short film “Blue Eyes” with Vic Mensa was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick and featured on WePresent, garnering widespread acclaim for its visual poetry and lived-in realism. His ongoing collaboration with Mick Jenkins extends this approach with “Smoke Break Dance,” a meditation on masculinity shaped by words of bell hooks, and “Truffles,”a stylized excavation of Black suburbia that was shortlisted for Music Video of the Year at the shots Awards. From boundary-pushing work with Rayvyn and Mette to his atmospheric live performance film of Model/Actriz for A24’s Sound Check series, his cinematic world-building has made him a collaborator of choice for music’s most visionary artists, a reputation further cemented by his widely celebrated “How to Make a F*cking Awesome Music Video” panel at SXSW.
In the commercial space, Muir’s D&AD Award–winning film “Black Owned Friday” for Google featured 25 Black-owned businesses in a shoppable campaign starring Keke Palmer, while his films for her Master of Me memoir deliver intimate, deeply human vignettes with standout performances. For adidas, “TOO NICE” starring Donovan Mitchell delivered a dynamic, narrative-driven portrait of athletic identity, while “The Jeweler” for Stanley x Messi extends his character-led approach through immersive storytelling. Other notable work includes Muir’s “Love Has No Labels” campaign for Ad Council with the George Floyd Memorial Foundation. The powerful film culminated in The Gentle Giant, a seven-minute version released on Hulu that reframes George Floyd’s legacy through the eyes of his sister, earning two Cannes Lions, with further recognition from Ad Age, ADC Awards and AICP.
In addition to his accolades at the AICP Awards, the 1.4 Awards, and Booooooom TV’s Best Short of the Year, Muir’s debut short 4 Corners won the Audience Award at the Chicago International Film Festival and Best Short Film at the DC International Film Festival. He was also awarded the Sundance Institute’s inaugural Uprise Grant Fund for his feature screenplay The Predicament and was selected as a Screenwriters Intensive fellow, while his upcoming film When They Come For Us received the inaugural Catalyst Award from the Michael Latt Legacy Fund.
With a captivating visual style and unwavering sensitivity to human truth, Muir has cemented his position as a filmmaker and writer whose work consistently lands with immediacy and lasting impact. He continues to build on a standout body of work that is as visually dynamic as it is emotionally enduring.
