Biography

Nina Holmgren is an award-winning Danish filmmaker known for bringing an original sensibility to every project. Her unique style is characterized by evocative aesthetics, compelling storytelling and sharp wit, masterfully blending human narratives with cinematic imagery.

With a background in fine art, Holmgren gravitated early toward film as a medium that seamlessly combines sound, visuals and narrative—disciplines she had been mastering individually. This multidisciplinary approach enables her to craft films that effortlessly merge artistic vision, technical precision and emotional depth. Whether exploring personal relationships, societal issues, or cultural dynamics, her work consistently engages and captivates audiences.

Holmgren’s numerous accolades—including three Young Directors Awards at Cannes Lions, Silver Lions, Gold at the 1.4 Awards, Best Branded Content at The One Show, AICP’s Best Visual Style award, and D&AD’s Best New Director—attest to her innovative approach and distinct artistic vision. Notably, her fiction short, “I Want You to Panic,” a bold statement on society’s climate apathy, was commissioned by NOWNESS and later archived by MoMA for its cultural significance.

Her collaborations span many of the world’s leading luxury brands in fashion and advertising including Beats By Dre, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, Vogue, and feature incredible performances from renowned, A-list talent.

Among her standout commercial works is “Future 21” for the global launch of Mercedes-Benz’s electric G-Class. The 70’s inspired sci-fi film trailer that she wrote and directed flips the traditional car commercial on its head with visually heightened world-building and deadpan humour, netting 1.4, AICP, CICLOPE and Cannes Lions awards as well as a Vimeo Staff Pick.  Continuing her collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, she directed the global campaign “Defining Class”, featuring incredible performances by Emmy Award-winning actor Matthew Macfadyen and tennis legend Roger Federer. The campaign showcases Holmgren’s mastery in seamlessly blending style, humor, levity and flawless execution.

Holmgren further made history as the first female filmmaker to direct Adidas’s official FIFA World Cup campaign. The “Family Reunion” spot, featuring athletes and artists such as Lionel Messi, Jude Bellingham, and Stormzy, delivered playful yet captivating performances. It became one of Adidas’s most successful campaigns, achieving record-breaking reach and engagement on social media. Similarly, her “Move How You Want” campaign for Beats, featuring Vince Staples, Naomi Osaka, and Kaia Gerber, further cemented her singular visual language with its seamless blend of visual poetry and rhythmic movement.

Most recently, Holmgren directed “The Holiday Ball” for Brunello Cucinelli, a project that exquisitely combines cinematic elegance with sartorial sophistication. Set in an enchanted hotel, the film captures the intriguing lives of glamorous guests, balancing refined luxury with playful charm.
