Biography
Joshua Kissi’s impact on culture extends far beyond filmmaking and photography. Dubbed a “generational Culture Shifter” by the Huffington Post and named one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People, Joshua has become a defining voice within the broader creative conversation, consistently shaping how creative communities connect, move, and evolve.
A Ghanaian-American filmmaker, photographer, and creative director, Joshua’s work celebrates the vibrancy of communities through a cultural and historical lens. As one of the most sought after photographers in America, his work has appeared in Vogue, GQ, and InStyle, while his client roster includes brands such as Nike, Beats by Dre, and Google.
A true self starter, Joshua has consistently built platforms and projects that push culture forward. Growing up in the Bronx with limited access to the creative industries, he began his journey co-founding Street Etiquette, the influential menswear blog centered on Black style and identity. He later co founded See in Black, a collective dedicated to elevating Black photographers, as well as TONL, a stock photography company created to better reflect the diversity often missing from traditional media. More recently, Joshua collaborated with Snap and Google Pixel to help advance camera technology designed to more accurately capture the full range of skin tones.
Since joining division7, Joshua has directed campaigns for Google, LinkedIn, Hennessy, and The New York Times, to name a few. His work has been recognized by The One Show, Ad Age, AICP, SHOTS, The Webbys, and Ciclope. His innate ability to find connection and commonality with the people and characters he films imbues his work with emotional depth and unexpected humanity.
